A Brooklyn preschool built around children’s interests.
PKA began with a simple idea: childhood should feel like discovery. Children should have time to explore, imagine, ask questions, build friendships, and grow in their own way.
Our teachers get to know each child well and pay attention to the ideas, conversations, questions, and experiences that spark their curiosity. Those interests help shape meaningful opportunities throughout the day.
More than two decades later, PKA remains intentionally small, warm, and deeply connected to the Brooklyn families we serve.

Learning at PKA begins with what children notice, wonder about, and want to understand. Through play, exploration, conversation, and hands-on experiences, their questions and ideas become starting points for investigating, experimenting, creating, and thinking more deeply.
Teachers listen closely, observe, and help children take an idea further without directing every step. Children have time to make choices, test ideas, solve problems, collaborate with others, and discover their own ways of doing things.

Our teachers pay close attention to what children are interested in, what they are trying to understand, and when they are ready for a little more support.
Rather than directing every moment, teachers create opportunities, ask thoughtful questions, introduce new materials, and give children the space to make choices, solve problems, and discover things for themselves.

Materials are within reach, children’s work is visible and valued, and the space evolves as new interests and ideas emerge. This gives children opportunities to investigate, build, create, revisit ideas, and discover what comes next.
